“Do you love God?” .......Take a second out and think... I bet you all will say.. “YES!” Then I ask, “if you do why is there so much lack of love around? ” ...brothers fighting one another; chaos in homes,..the list is endless. Why?
Is it not written that.. “if you say you love God and hate your fellow man that means you are living a lie.. if you do not love your brother whom you see, how can you love God when you can’t see?” ..food for thought..yes?
There is also a song we sing.. some of you might know it.. “God is love, and he who abides in love, abides in God, and God in him.” Therein lies the key!
Daily we go through major changes – challenging ones or unexpected transition – and we are confronted with mixed emotions: fear, dread, anticipation, anger, grief... even that long awaited promotion. We are called, in most cases, to be in control of what happens around us. In all of this we need a substance to energise and to move. We need love!!
Loving and being loved is what makes life worth living. Many people have had times in their lives when they felt unloved or that they had no one to love. If they dwell deeply enough on this they could go into a state of depression, unhappiness and in some extreme cases commit suicide.
Love is the energy of life! It is what motivates people to get up and go each day! Love gives life purpose and meaning! We keep searching for things, people to make us happy but in essence what we are looking for is GOD.. because God is LOVE!!
People look for fulfilment in life in different ways that might seem good at first but leaves them feeling frustrated, disappointed and empty! Because the vacuum inside of them needs to be filled with the love of God!
Only by walking in LOVE can you find the fulfilment you are so desperately seeking.. as the words of that song says.. “God is love and he who abides in God abides in Love and God in him”! Faith to become whatever you want works by love! It is the salt of life! It is by putting love into action by continually reaching out to others and making an effort to show them love through various acts of kindness!
I will ask a question again.. “do you find it easy to love others and feel embarreased when they show you love?” Well.. there are many reasons for this and one is that perhaps love was not shown you as a child. Perhaps criticism & rejection was more of a companion that praise and acceptance..so you have learnt to cope with the negative than the positive – so when love is shown you, it seems foreign.
Another is a ‘fear of love’? All of us deep down want to be loved because that is our core but there is a fear of allowing people close.. you feel that if people get close they will get to know your weakness and might reject us.. so you maintain your distance and push people away. To overcome all this we must open ourselves up... take a risk. It is written that “perfect love drives out fear”.
We can’t be complete if we do not give or receive love.
So my dear ones, Love is the core to living life fully! Society confuses love and lust. Love gives – Lust takes. God’s love is not static or self centred. It reaches out and draws others in... reaches out to listen rather than judge... to find solutions rather than condemn. So many crises are hinged on love... marital crises; sibling rivalry, party politics, religious crises; interpersonal crises.... Let us learn to tap into our core being (love) without which we are incomplete to achieve all that God has in stock for us. Let us see ourselves as God’s secret agents and sprinkle the ‘salt of life’ on all the tasteless lives we meet!
You do not need a partner to show someone love today... call up a friend, smile at someone you do not even know... SHOW LOVE!!
